Horror
This is a theatrical trailer, while I was thinking of making a teaser if I chose to do one, so mine would be a lot shorter than this. Despite this I think the techniques in this video are quite effective in establishing genre, for example the way the scenes fade out slowly at the beginning to establish an equilibrium, but then they cut quickly when the equilibrium is destroyed and scary features are introduced in order to create tension. This is something I would want to include if I decided to make a trailer. The lighting is also very dark which reinforces the horror genre. I noticed that in this trailer slow takes that slowly fade out are followed by really quick takes that flash up on the screen, which appears at the same time as a loud sudden beat of a drum. This would lead the audience into a false sense of a security and then catch them out, causing them to jump, which is a feature I would like to include if i made a trailer. The trailer also includes titles across the screen which helps the viewer to understand more about the storyline of the film. I think this is helpful in acknowledging the audience of more information about the film. Another thing I noticed about this trailer is that at some points the non-diagetic music suddenly stops, and this happens before a scary feature is introduced, to emphasise the impact. A lot of sound effects are included in the trailer such as thuds or bangs which scares the audience, and unsteady handheld camera creates suspense and emphasises action. As the trailer goes on, the cutting becomes quicker and the music becomes louder and more intense, increasing the tension and suspense.
